[Ccarc] ISS at JOTA

In 2001 I set up a Camporee at Buffalo much like the one planned this year.

We successfully contacted the ISS, and it was one of the highlights of the
event. Unfortunately, only a few people were at the station to witness the
event. If the best pass is at 7:31 PM (Is this adjusted for daylight savings
time?) we may be able to get the entire camp together. The campfire is
tentatively planned for 8:00 PM.

Chuck,
For your reference, here is what I can do for the Camp Buffalo
operation. I will have to work that Friday night, but should be
available all day and evening Saturday. If I do have to work Saturday, I
should be done by 3 or 4pm. I'm not qualified as an HF control operator,
but I do know a bit about contacting the ISS.
Using the current Keplerian elements for the ISS (they shouldn't change
much by Oct 21), the Nova program says there should be one good pass Sat
evening, beginning around 7:31pm, with a maximum elevation of 77
degrees. Only one, but it's a good one. We might not be able to get a
voice contact, they usually have the packet digi-peater running. Maybe
an astronaut will get on the air for JOTA. Another possibility, they
might be transmitting SSTV pictures by that time.
Contacts through other satellites (repeaters) might be a bit harder, but
could be good for demo purposes.
