Subject: [Ccarc] FD Press release

Rae sent me this from last year. Doesn't FD start at 2pm Saturday this
year local time?
If so...the time needs to be changed in the press release. Also should
there be somethign about inviting the Public to stop by during field day
to see the stations and visit with Club Members?

Cass County Amateur Radio Club participates in disaster practice this
weekend
Amateur Radio Operators from around the state and nation this weekend
will again be practicing for an activity they hope they never have to
perform. Amateur Radio Field Day, a national disaster preparedness
exercise, is Saturday and Sunday, and many local ham radio clubs will be
participating, according to Chuck Hendrickson, president of the Cass
County Amateur Radio Club. "Field Day is a chance for local hams to set
up their equipment totally independent of commercially generated power
as a practice for an emergency situation," Hendrickson said. This
exercise prepares local hams for the possibility of emergencies such as
tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and the like, in Cass County,
or for deployment in other areas of the nation. For 24 continuous hours,
local hams will be contacting other similar operations across the
country. Hendrickson says the exercise gives local hams a chance to work
the bugs out of any operations in advance of any call for emergency
communications by area, state or federal emergency management agencies.
Hendrickson said, "Ham operators have a long standing tradition of
handling communication with the outside world from disaster sites all
over the world when conventional means of communications have failed and
stand ready to do it again. During hurricanes on the Gulf Coast,
tornadoes in the midwest or other natural disasters, amateur radio
operators continue volunteering their expertise to help thousands of
people." The public is invited to visit Cass County Amateur Radio club's
Field Day site at 2818 Indian Creek Road, just north of Logansport. The
operation begins with set-up on Friday evening and continues with 24
hours of continuous operations beginning at 12 Noon on Saturday.
