Hello again everyone,

Tonight I actually have an upgrade to talk about. The logging program we've all used for years and grown to love has been upgraded this year. In the past we've used version 1.6. This has worked well for us for many many years. Not to worry, we're using the same program but version 2.8. The program works exactly the same but there are some additions.
One of those additions is the identification of the operator. As a new radio op starts they can "log in" once and every contact made will be under their call. This would only be used in case there's a problem or lack of understanding in something. Personally I don't really care how many contacts anyone makes. The important number to me is the final number. If you've made one that's one more, if you've made 50, that's 50 more.
Another one of the new features is a map to mark basically where you've been. The map is in color and when you've gotten several contacts it looks pretty colorful. There's also a graph to plot how many contacts we're getting in a period of time and in what band. This is another of those parts that is useful to the hard core contester but not really useful to us. The map thing however would look pretty impressive to someone checking out the hobby.
This all said what I would actually like to suggest is to download it and check it out for yourself. Even if you get the demo version that's enough to get a little familliar with it. You can practice putting in some fake call signs, designators and locations. Once there's about 10 in there you can hit the map and see what it sort of looks like and take in the "wow" factor of the map. Todd put on the remailer a night or two ago the link where to get the program. Once you're done playing with it you can uninstall it through the control panel.

If you are going to be bringing a computer to FD for logging or as a backup computer please go to http://www.n3fjp.com and download Download Field Day Contest Log 2.8 Now! and install it on your computer. Contact me and I will give you the call and password to activate it . Thanks

In fact there's the link again. Feel free to check it out. In fact I highly recommend doing so that way you can be familliar with it and sort of be a "pro" when it comes to operating the program.

In any case, that's my story this evening. I hope everyone is doing well and the excitment is building for this weekend. Have a wonderful day!!
