To all:
I just wanted to drop a line regarding FD. Even though we had challenges
this year, I still had a good-time. Even though I did not operate a whole
lot, I have fun helping with set-up and tear-down. I also learned about
checking out the feedline as I assisted Phil with that job. (Now I just need
to pick-up two Bird Wattmeters, and learn the Db loss formulas...)
Also, I learned (WE) can hoist up a fairly big tower by hand and not send
anyone to the hospital. Even though we had rain for the Saturday evening
feed....it was cool to see those there all huddled beneath the tarp and tent
and still enjoying good food and fellowship! Actually it was kind cool to be
huddled together rather than all spread out had we had nice weather at that
moment in time.
I agree as others have also stated, we were challenged...but it probably was
a better simulation of "an actual emergency" ie...bad weather and a couple
of technical challenges. Hey will still made contacts and racked up some
points. That's the goal....right...get a message through.
Hats off to all of us! I just want to thank Chuck and Anna...for all of
their hard work! I am not sure I could organize a FD....and Anna...the food
was great....ie..Sunday morning breakfast....Mmmmm Good!!
I really feel all who hand a hand in field day showed we could pull together
and get the job done. It would be a good movie.....we had the following....
ACTION...(putting antennas up..taking them down....making contacts..etc.
SUSPENSE....would it ever stop raining?...will the tower sink into the
ground?...what is that in Dave's van sleeping in the drivers seat..it was
"field day" the dog. DRAMA..having fun despite the challenges and making
plans to do it again next year!!!!
