In 1968 at South Bend I had a borrowed model 26 with auto start on 6
meters FM. It shook the whole house.
We had a model 15 at Manchester college in 1969 for AP news. It had
a sound proof closet outside the station in the stair well to keep
down the noise. It ran 24 hours a day and received the signal on
dedicated phone lines.
Also, deaf people could buy a model 15 KSR (key board send and receive(
for $50. They used it with a 300 baud modem over the phone. They called
it a TTY. Now the internet has replaced all that. And texting on cell
phones. They even had a small portable TTY for when they were traveling
($300).
