Ok folks I warned you some time back now it's time to make the prophecy come true. Saturday morning I'm planning a work session at EMA for several little projects that have needed done. I'll list the projects and what help we'll need in each one. These tasks are in priority order. If we don't get to the last two or last one we can get that done sometime in the near future.
1. Moving the link transmitter antenna higher on the tower & feed with hardline.
a. feeding hardline through the building from the repeater/link to the tower.
b. preparing the ends and installing barrel connectors
2. Installing the triband vertical antenna.
3. Help move the EMA repeater to under the stairs and extend their feedline to reach the new location
4. Set up the Kenwood 742 for 6 meters
At this point I will be the idiot up on the tower as usual. If all the logistics work right I'll have an assistant idiot to help me. Brandon KC9LVB will be climbing with me and being an extra set of hands and eyes which will be most helpful. Sometimes it seems I need at least three other hands when I'm doing stuff, well now I'll have it. I'm sure that it'll be a great learning experience and successful team operation.
Dave K9DVL will be primarily worrying about the ground crew issues and pointing people in the right direction to help out with the climb itself. I want to focus on getting the hardline fed and the antennas installed in their proper places. I still say the climbing part is easy, it's the ground crew stuff that is the hard work and the most important. Anyway I could go on and on about the ground crew and so forth but you get the point.
I'm thinking if we all put our focus on getting the job at hand done then none of it will take very long. As far as the climb goes, I'm looking at the morning like usual. Since sunrise is around 7:40 or so, I'm thinking about hitting the tower at 0800 AM. Getting there a little early is always a good option in that we can go over tasks, assignments and the game plan as a whole with all the players present. If we don't start right at 0800 no biggie but I don't want to delay it very long. Like the May water tower climb I want to focus on getting up there, getting the job done and gettin down so we can move on to other tasks. I don't want to hurry or be rushed but I'm not interested in doddling around on the tower either. I have complete confidence we can stay focused on the tasks at hand and get the jobs done correctly the first time.
We're working on the "grocery list" of stuff we'll need. The only thing I would like is for everyone to look to see what if any club climbing gear you may have so we can utilize it for these climbs the club makes to fix stuff. I'll keep you all updated as to further developments. Stay tuned!!
