ARES/RACES:

Chuck again issued a reminder that the Deadline for NIMS certification is this September. You can study and take the NIMS tests online at the FEMA website or go to the club website and click on training to go to the FEMA website link. IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 certification are needed for ARES/RACES personnel.

Chuck also reported that the State-wide RACES Communications Test will be held Saturday, July 26th at 9:00am (14:00 UTC). He said one check in from each county on several different frequencies is the goal. 6 meters and 160 meters will not be used this time. Each county will try to check-in with the State EOC during the test.

OLD BUSINESS:

Chuck,N9PMW, reported that he has not gotten all of the Field Day results compiled yet. He estimates the club will receive approximately 2,500 pts. He has not compiled the number of contacts yet, but said we had a good number of contacts on several bands and using several modes. Rae, N9YFW, was complimented for his handling of the food and raffle for Field Day. Dan, KV9N was also complimented for his teaching sessions during Field Day.

Chuck, N9PMW, said he would like to get the HF loop antenna up at EMA in time for Field Day 2009.

There were comments that having Field Day at EMA saved the Club money, and made field day more comfortable by having space to eat indoors.

NEWS BUSINESS:

Bob, K9AWH, suggested the Club should hold classes to help people become licensed. Dan, KV9N, also suggested that classes would help get more people licensed and would enhance the Club’s image to the public. Bob said there are some club members who would like to upgrade. There are also some EMA personnel and others who have expressed an interest in becoming licensed.

Dan,KV9N, also suggested that club members interested in making antennas, choose an antenna they are interested in, then make a presentation during coming club meetings, describing the antenna they have chosen to research and describe the antenna, it’s advantages and dis-advantages. Then the club could decide whether or not to build the antenna and install it at EMA. Dave, K9DVL, said it would be nice to have several antennas to choose from during field day and at other times. If several antennas were available, then different antennas could be used depending on the type of antenna needed. Ed, K9PSR, suggested the antennas, (if installed) might be able to be tested if the club held a special event from the EMA site.

Phil, W9LVY, said the batteries at the Chase Park water tower will need to be removed before the City installs a new generator at the site. Dave, K9DVL, will check with LMU to see when the new generator will be installed, so the batteries can be removed before the installation of the generator.

GOOD OF THE CLUB:

The Club received a letter from Bailey Fry’s son, stating that Bailey’s family would like to sell his amateur radio equipment. Bailey passed away earlier this year.

Phil, W9LVY reported he is retiring from the Star City Phone company.

Todd, N9PVQ was injured in a car-moped accident earlier this week.
