K9dvl and W9LVY worked on repeater amplifiers on Saturday at EMA. We were able to get two amps to work, but still needed the power control boards to work. On Sunday K9DVL, W9LVY and N9PMW were able to get the power control board on one amp to work, and K9DVL replaced the + and A- terminals and we replaced the power control board one one amp and then we put it into service at the Chase Water tank 147.180 transmit site. The building there has a new roof, a new door, a new threshold, a new electric cut over switch and the lock
for the door is inside the handel, not a padlock with a hasp (same key fits as before). We will need to remove our batteries soon, and they will be adding a generator outside to power all the radios for when comercial AC power fails. That has been needed for a long time.
Now we have 93 watts out of the amp and 70 watts out of the duplexers. That puts 35 watts to the antenna. That is about 10 db improvement, which should double the range of the transmit coverage. I always figure 3 db increases range 20% to 25%, and 10 db is about double the range.
