Subject: [Inares] March INARES Newsletter 2008
Hello all,
This will be the last newsletter for the season. With all the summer
activities going on I will resume the newsletter in the fall.
Spring is just around the corner hopefully we are all looking forward
to warmer weather and Field Day. The Arrl has released the 2008 Field
Day Packet http://www.arrl.org/contests/forms/fd-2008-packet.pdf
I have updated the INARES page along with the Indiana Section Plan. It
now includes the Simplex Frequencies.

2008 IRCC Technical Excellence Award Nominations
Its time for all Indiana amateur radio clubs and organizations to
consider one of their own as a nominee for the 2008 IRCC Technical

For the past seven years the Indiana Radio Club Council has selected
one Hoosier Amateur Radio Operator to receive this prestigious award
during the July 12th Indianapolis Hamfest at Camp Sertoma.
To qualify send a detailed explanation of how this person uses their

give of their time, talents and technical expertise to make a
difference in amateur radio. Please be as detailed as possible when
writing the candidates qualifications.
Entries will be judged on technical ability, hours of contribution,
individual or organization served and extent of contribution (s).
Include an e-mail address for both the honoree and submitting author
so we may notify all individuals.
Deadline for entries is Midnight Friday June 6, 2008.
E-mail your entry to: w9eeu at arrl.net or pgadams at aol.com
The Technical Excellence Award will be presented July 12th at the
Indianapolis Hamfest.
Our committee looks forward to hearing from you.

MONTHLY TIP: This is from the PSCM
Monitor established disaster frequencies. Many localities and some
geographical areas have established disaster frequencies where someone
is always (or nearly always) monitoring for possible calls. When you
are not otherwise engaged, it is helpful simply to sit and listen on
such frequencies, some of which are used for general rag chewing as
well as disaster preparedness drilling. On CW, SOS is universally
recognized, but has some legal aspects that should be considered where
the need is not truly crucial. On voice, one can use "MAYDAY"
(universal, the phone equivalent of SOS) or, to break into a net or
conversation, the word "emergency."
Remember we are trying to start an evening ARES net on the 4th Sunday.
Please bear with us till we find a good spot. Start at 3.910 + - you
might have to search but we will be out there. So for the next couple
of months we will have 2 sessions AM 8:00 ET and PM 6:30 ET Indy time.
